Less is More

Hello!

I am back to play along with the new challenge at Less is More where the fab DT are celebrating their 8th birthday month :)  Our challenge for this fortnight is to make the sentiment the focus in a one layer design.

Here is what I came up with:

I heat embossed the gorgeous vintage typewriter from Visible image.  I love the way that the sentiments fit on the paper :)  I masked the stamp and inked through my sunray stencil to create a pop of colour and add more focus on the sentiment.

I will also link up at Time Out where the challenge theme is Retro and at Simon's Wednesday Challenge where we are using black, white + a colour.

I hope you like my one layer card and enjoy the inspiration from the rest of the talented DT at LIM.  Thank you for giving me the chance to GD this month!

Less is More

Hello!

I am excited to be joining the Less is More team for February as they celebrate their birthday!  It continues to be a great challenge to play along with and the DT are super talented :)

I used my Birds in Flight stencil with Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide and a sentiment from Stamplorations.  A bit of washi tape at the bottom of the card and some yellow twine complete the design.

I love this colour combo and enjoyed coming up with a design that has lots of white space :)  Do check out the fab inspiration that the rest of the DT have to share with you over at the LIM blog.

Bold Stripes

Hello!

I have added a bold stripes stencil to my Folksy store which I made in order to play along with two of my favourite challenges - Time Out and Less is More.

First up is my card for Time Out where we had a lovely photo inspiration to work from.

I simply inked the stencil in Salty Ocean distress oxide on the card blank and then I clear embossed my knitted background stencil on a piece of kraft card to pick up on the texture of the sofas in the photo.  The fab sentiment is a die cut from Stamplorations.  Hopefully this captures the nautical look of the photo which is:

Next up I have a card for Less is More where we are making one layer cards with a theme of stripes.  I used the same stencil but this time moved it along and overlapped the colours to create a different effect.  I used Cracked Pistachio, Lucky Clover and Blueprint Sketch Distress Oxides.

The sentiment is from Altenew and the stars are from Uniko's Background Builders Seeing Stars set.

I hope this has given you a feel for the ways that you can use the stencil to get different looks.

Check out my Folksy store where everything is currently 20% off when you use the code FOSSIL20 at checkout before midnight (BST) on 31 July.  I will be closing the store for a few weeks from 1 August while we go on our hols :)

Thanks for stopping by,

Shades of Blue

Hello!

I wanted to play along with the new challenge at Less is More which is to make a CAS one layer card based on the theme - Thinking of You.  I inked up some of the new release from Uniko to make this card:

I inked through Uniko's lattice stencil in a combination of peacock feathers and cracked pistachio distress oxides.  I then stamped the lovely leafy silhouette from Just Because in navy ink from Hero Arts.  The sentiment is from Pure Florals Lily.  I shall also link up at Calling All Sistahs - thanks to Sandie for the suggestion :)

While I had the lattice stencil out I inked it up again before stamping the Pure Florals Rose stamp.  In used the navy ink and then coloured over it with one of the Tonic Nuvo glitter markers.  I then inked through the Nature's Treasures stencil to add leaves and the sentiment is from Just Because.  A few ink splatters complete the design.

I shall link up for a second time at Simon's Wednesday Challenge where we are using more than one stamp.

Thank you for stopping by,

Black, White and Bold

Hello,

I wanted to share a few cards that I have made for current challenges that I always like to take part in.  First up is a simple black and white card for Less is More where we are being asked to create monochromatic designs.  I have very simply stamped a lovely detailed floral design from Indigoblu as the focal point on the card:

I think that the black and white looks nice and elegant!  I shall also link up at the Flower Challenge where Anything Goes.

Here I have made a second card for Time Out where the inspiration word is bold.  I used one of my stencil designs in black and yellow to create a background for the vibrant birds die from Stamplorations.  I have coloured the card with sparkle pens before die cutting and also layered them on top of a black layer to give them a bit more definition.  The fab sentiment is from Visible Image.  I was inspired by these vibrant birds from the super creative Maria Fischer :)

I will also link this card up at Happy Little Stampers Anything Goes with Dies challenge and at Stamplorations March Challenge where the theme is Spring and Faith.

I hope you like these 2 cards.

Thank you for stopping by,

Less Is More #365

Hello,

We are back with another challenge at Less is More and I am having lots of fun playing along as a guest designer during this special birthday month!  For this challenge we want to see your CAS designs which feature dry embossing:

I have to admit that I don't use embossing on my cards very often and don't have many embossing folders although you can also emboss dies.  I always like it when I see it on other peoples' cards but never seem to think of doing it myself!  However, I got a really sweet embossing folder free with a papercrafting magazine and decided it was perfect for this challenge :)

I embossed the folder on kraft card and added some small die cut white flowers (from Concord and 9th).  I also added a pair of chipboard birds and hearts which I painted white and embossed to create a glazed effect.  The sentiment is white embossed and from Avery Elle.  Finally I added a few dots with a white pen.  I hope you like the simple effect of kraft and white.

Whilst rummaging around for things to emboss I found a script folder and made this too:

I embossed the folder on grey card and cut a panel for the card front.  I used some gilding wax to highlight the texture and edged the grey panel with some gold mirri.  The feather die is from Spellbinders and I gold embossed the top.  The sentiment is from Papertrey Ink and I added a few splatters and sequins to finish.

I shall link this card up at Simon's Monday Challenge where the theme is Take Note and at Simon's Wednesday Challenge to use a die.

I hope you like these embossed designs and take the time to play along with us this month.  Remember that if you play along in both of the February challenges at LIM you will be in for a chance of winning two of my range of stencils.....you can find them on Folksy.

Less Is More #364

Hello!

I am so excited to be playing along with my teamies at Less is More as we celebrate our 7th Birthday!  Sarah and the team do such an amazing job bringing us fun challenges and inspiration - I really appreciate all of the work they do behind the scenes :)  Thank you x

This birthday challenge is a theme that I am sure loads of you will love....

I used one of my new stencils - heartbeat headphones - on this design.

I masked off a panel on the card front and inked through the headphone stencil with dark grey ink and using red ink for the heartbeat.  The headphones are clear embossed to give them a glossy sheen.  I added some stamploration stamps to create a grungy feel and a die cut heart.  The sentiment is from Uniko.

On my second card I have black embossed the headphones and used blue ink on the heart beat.  I added some Uniko stars in the background and a sentiment from Mama Elephant.  They are both one layer cards!

I shall link this card up at Simon's Wednesday Challenge where Anything Goes.

I hope you like my headphone stencil which is now available for sale in my Folksy store.  Do head over and check out my small (but growing) range of stencils :)

Thank you to Sarah and the team for letting me come back as a GD for this special birthday month.  I look forward to seeing what you create.

Holiday Crafting

Hello!

I hope you had a wonderful Christmas - did Santa bring you any crafty goodies?!  We have just finished our family visiting and entertaining so I have had the opportunity to play in my craft room for a few hours today and am looking forward to lots more craft time over the next few days.

I really like Anita's sketch at Less is More so decided to play along with some of the fab new stamps from Uniko's pre Christmas release....

I used my Indian Flower stencil (which you can get from my Folksy shop) and inked through with some oxides.  I then stamped the fabulous large sentiment from Uniko's Big and Bold Hugs.

Here is the sketch:

On this card I stamped and masked the glorious roses from Uniko's Pure Florals - they come in both solid and outline designs.  I added a leaf stencil for a bit of greenery and the same sentiment from Big and Bold Hugs.  I shall link this card up at Simon's Wednesday Challenge where Anything Goes this week.

I hope to have more creations to share with you later this week.  In the meantime, have a lovely time over the festive season.....

Thanks for stopping by,

Less is More #339

Hello!

How is your summer going?!  Well, I hope.....it seems to be whizzing by quickly.  We are looking forward to a few sunny weeks in Spain before it is back to school and the autumn routine.  However, in the meantime, we have another challenge to keep you entertained at Less is More

Before I get on to my cards, I wanted to let you know that today is my last post as a member of the DT.  I am sad to be stepping down but my work and home commitments are taking up a lot of time at the moment and I haven't been able to do as much crafting as I would like!  LIM is one of my favourite ever challenges and it has been a huge honour to spend the past 18 months on the DT with one of the most talented and lovely teams in blogland :)  Every week their cards are a great inspiration to me and they work so hard behind the scenes too.  I definitely plan to play along whenever I can.....

This week we are asking you to include some form of piercing on your design.....here is what I came up with:

I used a pierced hole border die to create the panel in the card and used some thread to give a stitched effect.  This was popped up over some patterned paper and combined with a die from Papertrey Ink and a stamp from Uniko.  It is very simple but I think it has a clean, masculine look.

My second card is much more feminine and soft with a die cut butterfly from Stamplorations popped over some stencilled foliage.  I pierced some flourishes to give some movement to the design and completed with a sentiment from Hero Arts.

Check out the pierced inspiration from the rest of the DT and remember that our sponsor this month is Happy Little Stampers.

Thank you as always for stopping by - I really appreciate your comments :)

Less is More #338

Hello,

As July flies by in a blur we are back with another challenge to keep you on your crafty toes over at Less is More.

This week we want to see CAS designs which use stencils, dies and anything other than stamps.  I have loads of dies and find myself using them increasingly on cards so that is what I used for this challenge:

I die cut the sentiment (Lil Inkers) from navy cardstock and added some of the fab Stamploration flower dies around it. The navy panel is popped up for some added dimension.

Using more of the same navy cardstock I die cut a flourish with a Sizzix die in mint green and attached it to the navy panel.  A die cut sentiment from Penny Black completes the design.

Both very simple cards and quick to make as they didn't involve any particular skill, colouring etc.  It is great to be able to use dies to get accurate and quick results!

I look forward to seeing what you make without stamps this week.  The DT have more ideas to share with you over at Less is More.

See you again soon,

Less is More #336

Hello,

The summer is rolling by and we are back with another fun challenge at Less is More.  This challenge will run for 2 weeks to give you more of a chance to play along.  AND it is an extra special challenge as we are linking up with the fab team at AAA Cards to take part in a joint challenge.  The bad news is it is one layer cards and we are looking for cards made using a coloured card - anything other than white.
.

I had lots of fun with this challenge:

I used navy cardstock to make the card base and white embossed the sweet bears (I think they are Mama Elephant) and a sentiment from MFT.  I inked white pigment ink through a circle punch for the moon and highlighted the bears in white.

I white embossed this fun design (from Sizzix) on to a kraft card base and coloured in with pencil.  The sentiment is from Paper Smooches.  I also embossed lines around the main focal point to add a bit of texture but they haven't come through very well on the photo!

Finally, a super quick card where I white embossed this gorgeous floral stamp from Concord and 9th on to a purple card base and added a sentiment from Paper Smooches.

I hope you like what I created and remember there is the double bonus of inspiration cards from the DTs of both LIM and AAA!  It is also great to welcome Kylie as a guest designer this week as Happy Little Stampers is our generous sponsor this month.

Less is More #335

Hello!

Here we are in July already.  It has been a very wet and chilly week in the UK so I am hoping that July brings the return of some sunshine.  We are back today with our latest challenge at Less is More which is to use colours from a country's flag:

Quite predictably my first card features the colours of the union jack - blue and white with just a touch of red:

I stamped some hearts from Waltzingmouse Stamps repeatedly across the top of the card in navy ink and combined it with a sentiment from Altenew.  A little red heart creates a pop of contrast.  I will also link up at Simon's Wednesday Challenge where it is Anything Goes.

I then decided to remove red from the mix and just focus on the blue and white of the Scottish flag.

This simply features some patterned paper combined with a die from Waltzingmouse and a sentiment stamp and die from Papertrey Ink.  I thought this would work well for a masculine birthday card. I will link this one up at Time Out where the theme is celebrations with the optional twist of one layer.

The rest of the DT have other fab designs to share with you over at Less is More.  And, as we are at the start of the new month we have a new sponsor - the wonderful Happy Little Stampers.

I look forward to seeing which flag you choose to take inspiration from :)

Less is More #334

Hello!

This week at Less is More we have a sketch challenge for you.  I do find sketches well, challenging so this was a tough one for me!

Here is the sketch:

When I looked at the sketch I saw a river running across the card so that is what I went with....

I stencilled a wave pattern on the card base and popped up white card on either side which was hand cut in to a wavy line.  The cute otter and baby are from MFT and are left over from the recent kit that Shona sent over for Honey I Shrunk the Kit.  The sentiment is from Uniko.

I then decided to try making a similar design as a one later card so I masked a wavy line, stamped and masked the fish (from Mama Elephant) and stencilled in the water.  I added some white highlights to the fish and added a sentiment from Altenew.

I hope that you like how I used the sketch for my designs this week.  The rest of the DT have other inspiration to share with you over at Less is More.

Thanks, as always, for stopping by,

Less is More #333

Hello!

I am back again after a glorious few weeks of sunshine in Spain....it is proving difficult to readjust to a damp and cool british summer!  However, it gives me an excuse to loiter in my craft room (ignoring the jungle outside in the garden) and to make some cards for this week's Less is More Challenge which is to Personalise It.

I made 2 cards.....the first one is for Father's Day which is tomorrow.  It is for my father in law who looks a bit like this but doesn't wear a bow tie :)

The die cut edge and sentiment are from Waltzingmouse Stamps which is now sadly closed.  The face is cut from a balloon die and the other features from Sizzix.  The patterned paper just brings a bit of colour and interest to the design.  I hope that it makes my father in law smile!

I made a card for my mum using Altenew stamps which I have watercoloured with distress inks.  The sentiment is Altenew and the Mum is from Waltzingmouse.

It is a lovely touch to personalise a card and I plan to invest in more alphabet stamps or dies to add individual names too.  The rest of the DT have great ideas for creating personalised designs which you can find over on the Less is More blog.

Thank you for stopping by,
